Can you turn a wrench? Our building always needs random maintenance and fixing.
Volunteers are involved with every aspect of our day to day operation, and PCHS could not function without them. We can always use more help at our facility--one day a week is all we ask, and we will work around your schedule. You can click on the link at the bottom to begin filling out the ONLINE VOLUNTEER APPLICATION, or download a PDF VOLUNTEER APPLICATION and bring it to our facility and meet our awesome animals while you're at it.
Whether it's with us or with one of the several other no-kill rescues in Southern Illinois, working with rescue animals can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. To apply, click on the link below to the Online Volunteer Application. If you wish to download a PDF version and submit it later at our facility, then click on the Download PDF Volunteer Application.
A variety of fundraising events are held throughout the year. Information will be put out through this website once they are scheduled. We need people to set up tables and booths as well as man them. We raise much needed funds for our facility and collect food / supplies which are used daily.
We are located right next to the DuQuoin Fairgrounds, and volunteers love to take our dogs out for a stroll or run. Our hyper dogs love the exercise and need to blow off some steam after being in a kennel all day. Bad weather? Don't feel like walking around? That's okay, we have a treadmill that works just fine for our dogs.
Most of our volunteers take a few hours of an afternoon shift to clean out dog kennels as well as the cat area. It can get messy at times, but it's all worth it once our dogs greet you with a hug or a trio of cats come purring at your feet. Volunteers also take each dog outside for some much needed play time away from their kennels.
